Japanese Irises was inspired by a woodcut by the Japanese artist, Hiroshige.  He was a master at depicting the natural world in a realistic but slightly stylized way that only enhances its beauty.  Irises are a symbol of heroism in Japanese art.  The design is balanced by decorative panels on the sides, with a depiction of Hiroshige’s round signature seal at the left.  The piece is finished with decorative gold metallic accents as a final touch.
